Business Courier: CVG's Paris flight set to return
Cincinnati Business Courier / Chris Wetterich / October 6, 2020One flight that has been the pride and joy at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has been Delta Air Line’s nonstop trip to Paris, which once was the only transatlantic flight in Ohio, Kentucky or Indiana. It’s a key market for the region because it allows companies to get to Europe on a nonstop flight. On March 28, Delta grounded the Paris flight amid the pandemic. Travel by U.S. citizens to European Union countries, including France, remains banned because the U.S. has not yet brought the virus under control, while business travel largely remains grounded for most companies. But Delta has given CVG news that likely will prompt a sigh of relief from the region’s business community: The Paris flight is scheduled to return in March 2021.CVG spokeswoman [Mindy Kershner](https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/search/results?q=Mindy%20Kershner) said the flight’s resumption will depend on several factors.“We are pleased that the Delta CVG-Paris flight is targeted to return spring 2021, depending on demand and operating conditions. CVG is currently the only airport in Ohio, Kentucky or Indiana with planned nonstop service to Europe in 2021,” Kershner said.An airline spokesman did not immediately return an email seeking comment. Before the pandemic, Delta had begun offering the same route from Indianapolis.CVG has been hoping to build on it for years, potentially with a flight to London or elsewhere on the continent where the region’s corporations do business, perhaps Germany.[Full Story Here (subscription-based)](https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2020/10/06/cvg-paris-flight-set-to-return.html)Read more - Sep 30, 2020

CVG receives another $6.7M in Airport Improvement Program grants
Erlanger, Ky. (September 28, 2020) ― The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced today that the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) will receive an additional $6.7M in Airport Improvement Program grants. Earlier this month, U.S. DOT awarded $45M in AIP funding to CVG. Today’s announcement increases this amount to $51.7M. The additional $6.7M allocation to CVG includes supplemental discretionary AIP funding, as well as additional CARES Act funds. These dollars will be dedicated to runway rehabilitation and associated taxiway projects at CVG that were previously announced. “We are grateful to the U.S. Department of Transportation and Secretary Elaine Chao for additional funding for these critical projects at CVG,” said Candace McGraw, chief executive officer, CVG. “Continued investment in our airport’s infrastructure will speed the region’s economic recovery from the significant impact of the pandemic. An investment in infrastructure is an investment in jobs and our community’s future.” About CVGThe Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) has been serving commercial passengers since 1947. Business Courier: Why CVG has done better than other airports during the pandemic
Cincinnati Business Courier / Chris Wetterich / September 22, 2020Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has recovered a larger share of the passengers and airline seats it has lost during the pandemic compared with other airports in the Midwest and the national average.Over the last month, the number of passengers through CVG’s front door has been down 65% compared with the national average of 70%, said [Bobby Spann](https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/search/results?q=Bobby%20Spann), CVG’s vice president for external affairs.Meanwhile, in October, CVG will have about 56% of the seats on flights that it had a year ago, roughly the same as the national average but more than Cincinnati’s peer regions in Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Lexington, Pittsburgh and Louisville. Only Indianapolis had a greater percentage at 57%.The industry also measures future bookings, with CVG down 59% in mid-September compared with the overall industry being down 72%.CVG has several advantages, Spann said: The robust presence of low-cost carriers Allegiant and Frontier have helped drive CVG to higher passenger numbers, seat capacity and bookings than other airports. Most air travel being done right now is leisure travel. Allegiant’s seat capacity in October is 105% of what it was a year ago. Frontier is at 65%, while American, Delta, United and Southwest are at 46%, 47%, 48% and 49%, respectively. The lower seat capacity in other regions, in turn, has driven people who want or need to travel to CVG. CVG is seeing passengers from a 120-mile radius around it, Spann said.“We’re capturing traffic from a very large area around us. Our network is in a pretty positive position. “We’re kind of leading the pack in the region,” Spann said. “The bad news is we’re only hitting about 40% of where we were.”Delta and Southwest have left open all middle seats on their planes. The other airlines do not.[FULL STORY HERE](https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2020/09/22/why-cvg-has-done-better-than-others.html) (subscription-based)Read more - Sep 23, 2020
Business Courier: CVG board votes to give vendors a break as it faces its own budget crunch
Cincinnati Business Courier / Chris Wetterich / September 22, 2020The board that oversees Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport voted unanimously Monday to relax about $2.3 million in rent for vendors at the airport even as it faces its own financial challenges. Most vendors have to pay the airport a minimum annual guarantee, regardless of whether they profit. The Kenton County Airport Board voted to allow them to pay a percentage of their overall sales as rent to the airport from April through the end of the year.About 20 of the 55 restaurants and shops at CVG are open, said CEO [Candace McGraw](https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/search/results?q=Candace%20McGraw).The Federal Aviation Administration asked airports to enter into negotiations with vendors over lease terms.CVG’s vendors will continue to have to pay utility charges and if they received money from the Paycheck Protection Program within the federal CARES Act, it would offset some of the rent relief CVG is offering. No vendors have permanently closed, but that could be a possibility next year if business conditions do not improve, McGraw said. The airport also could extend the program into 2021.[FULL STORY HERE](https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2020/09/22/cvg-gives-vendors-a-break-as-it-faces-its-own-budg.html) (subscription-based)Read more - Sep 16, 2020
CVG Airport achieves global Health Accreditation
Erlanger, KY (September 16, 2020) ― As travelers return to flying at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) they can be reassured that the airport has gone above and beyond to prioritize healthy and safety of the traveling public. Today, CVG is the first airport in the Midwest, and third in the U.S., to receive an industry-approved, global Health Accreditation – a third-party validation and assessment that the airport is maintaining safe and hygienic facilities.Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) program assesses an airport’s compliance with new health measures and procedures introduced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Aviation Recovery Task Force recommendations. Areas of assessment include cleaning, disinfection, physical distancing, staff protection, physical layout, and passenger communication. With the accreditation, airports are expected to complete ongoing self-assessment and quality assurance, leading to a cycle of continuous improvement, as situations change, and requirements evolve.“Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, North American airports have taken unprecedented steps to ensure the health and safety of passengers and airport workers,” said ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke. “We are proud to recognize Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport as the first airport in the Midwest to achieve their Airport Health Accreditation. It further demonstrates the airport’s commitment to promoting health and safety as air travel begins to recover.” “Aviation will be a critical driver of the global economic recovery from the impacts of COVID-19 and, by being accredited through ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation program, CVG Airport is playing an important role in helping to rebuild passenger confidence in air travel,” said ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira. “I am grateful to CVG for taking a leadership role in prioritizing passenger health through the introduction of new measures that are aligned with global standards and protocols.”“Passenger safety has always been our paramount concern at CVG. Our CVG community, comprised of airport, airline and tenant staff continue to go above and beyond for travelers,” said Candace McGraw, Chief Executive Officer, CVG. “We are pleased to receive this important validation of our collective efforts to rebuild passenger confidence. I continue to be grateful for and impressed with the dedication of our staff.”About CVG Airport:The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) has been serving passengers since 1947.
