Amazon's Prime Air service, which is headquartered at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, launched a new Airbus A330 aircraft Oct. 2, the first of 10 larger, wide body jets it plans to use in its continuing efforts to speed up how quickly its customers get their packages.

It is the largest aircraft Amazon has used to date.

The global retail giant gave reporters a tour of the new aircraft Oct. 2, billing it as a major milestone that will enable it to move customer packages across longer distances in a shorter time frame.

Amazon leases all of its jets and contracts out with airlines to fly them. Altavair is the lessor, while Hawaiian Airlines will operate the A330s in Amazon's fleet, with it establishing a Cincinnati base, Amazon officials said.
