The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has picked a contractor for a major, $66 million overhaul in Concourse B.
AERO BridgeWorks will design, build and replace all 28 of the passenger boarding bridges in Concourse B at a cost of $65.9 million.
Last year, the board had approved $30 million for the first phase of the project, which also included ancillary equipment, electrical upgrades, security and access control systems and updates to the gate marking and aircraft layout. CVG’s board approved another $36 million on May 15.
The 30-year-old bridges are now in various states of disrepair and functionality.
“The bridges were maintained by Delta. They’ve exceeded their useful life,” said CVG CEO Candace McGraw.
Manufacturers of the bridges are backed up because a number of mid-sized airports face the same issues, she added.
“We wanted to get in the queue for jet bridges,” McGraw said.
The replacement bridges are set to start arriving next month.
