The U.S. Dept. of Transportation released its average airfare ranking report for fourth quarter 2016. Below is a summary as it relates to CVG:

• CVG average fare ranked #42 compared to #22 in 4Q 2015
• CVG average fare of $367 decreased 12% compared to $419 in 4Q 2015
• Fares decreased 26% compared to $496 in 4Q 2014
• Fares are down $129 round-trip over the last 24 months
• Low-cost carrier capacity at CVG was 21% in 4Q 2016 compared to 16% in 4Q 2015

Regional comparisons:

• Louisville (SDF) ranked #17 – average fare $404
• Lexington (LEX) ranked #24 – average fare $395
• Dayton (DAY) ranked #26 – average fare $393
• CVG ranked #42 – average fare $367
• Columbus (CMH) ranked #48 – average fare $360
