Erlanger, Ky. (June 13, 2019) ― The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) fire and rescue department recently received the Lifesaver’s EMS Award from St. Elizabeth Healthcare. The award was given to the outstanding team for their quick response and actions during an emergency. A tourniquet carried by emergency responders was quickly applied which saved the patient’s life.

Earlier this year, the department was also awarded 2018 Fire Department of the Year by the Northern Kentucky Firefighter’s Association. The airport fire department is unique as its daily duties include responding to passenger and employee emergencies. Each firefighter/EMT/paramedic carries a tourniquet as part of the airport’s bleeding control plan. Tourniquets and other medical supplies are also stationed throughout the public areas of the airport in the event they are quickly needed. An element of bleeding control is taught in conjunction with CPR classes to prepare airport employees in the event of an emergency.
