CVG Celebrates 70 Years of Flight
01/10/2017
Jan. 10, 2017 — CVG celebrated its 70th “birthday” on Tuesday by surprising passengers with complimentary Gold Star coneys, gifts, and of course — birthday cake.
Various other airport concessionaires offered discounts and specials in observance of the occasion.
The first flight (via American Airlines) took place at CVG on January 10, 1947. Since then the airport has grown and evolved alongside the aviation industry. While much has changed, one thing remains the same—CVG has always been a place where important moments in people’s lives unfold.
“2016 was a huge year for CVG,” said CEO Candace McGraw. “Entering our 70th year gives us a moment to look back and reflect on all that has been achieved and to look forward in anticipation of all of the great things that are ahead of us. This warrants celebration. We are proud to have been the region’s front door for seven decades. We look ahead with enthusiasm because the future of our airport and region is bright.”
McGraw unveiled a new initiative for the airport’s 70th year — Project Gratitude. Throughout the year staff will thank passengers by performing 70 acts of gratitude intended to brighten days and enhance the travel experience for unsuspecting travelers. These acts will be documented and shared on social media as they occur.
