CVG Celebrates Passenger and Cargo Records

09/25/2017

Sept. 25, 2017 — CVG is one of the fastest growing airports in the country, as it continues to set local passenger traffic records, and celebrates three years of consecutive year-over-year growth.

In August, local passenger traffic was up 30 percent with more than 362,500 originating passengers, marking the third highest local passenger August volume in CVG’s 70-year history. All scheduled carriers at CVG experienced double digit year-over-year growth. Over the last three years, originating passenger volume has grown 58 percent while airfares have decreased more than 30 percent.

CVG also set an all-time record in terms of most cargo tonnage handled in one month, with 92,988 tons in August, an increase of 39 percent year-over-year.

Overall, landed weight from aircraft operations in August was up 31percent year-over-year with more than 967 million pounds, the most since August of 2006.

“At CVG, we’re embracing what’s next and planning for a bright future, as we work to continue breaking records by growing both passenger and cargo operations, and lowering airfares,” said Candace McGraw, chief executive officer, CVG. “The new activity and additional landed weight will enable CVG to continue lowering its landing fees, benefiting all carriers while ensuring we remain a great place to do business. CVG is operating its business in a very strategic way, and we continue to see tremendous results.”

Since May 2013, CVG has welcomed five new carriers and introduced more than 50 new flight options to its network of 57 nonstop markets. More than any other airport in the Tri-State region.
