DHL Adding 900 Jobs at CVG Hub
Job fair to be held Saturday, March 4, at CVG Centre Completion of $108 million expansion signals start of extensive hiring Projected growth is expected to increase hub’s work force to more than 3,300Feb. 28, 2017 — DHL Express, the world’s leading international express services provider, today announced it will recruit approximately 900 new positions as the company completes the latest $108 million expansion of its Americas Hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport. The expansion to a new day sort operation and projected growth in shipments is expected to increase the hub’s workforce to more than 3,300 from the current 2,400 employees.In order to fill these new positions, DHL will hold a job fair on Saturday, March 4, at the CVG Centre in Erlanger. Those hired should be ready to begin work as soon as pre employment processing is complete and no later than May 1st when the new Daytime operation is scheduled to begin.“We are excited to leverage our newly expanded Americas Hub and welcome talented potential candidates to fill these new positions,” said Mike Parra, CEO, DHL Express Americas. “As we look to the future, we know the continued investment in motivated people is the key to ensuring that we meet the demands of our customers and have the ability to handle the continued growth and expansion that will occur at our CVG Hub location.”This latest expansion features a new north ramp that’s built on 45 acres of land and provides parking space for 16 additional planes, bringing the hub’s total capacity to 65 aircraft gates. The expansion also includes additional automated sorting capability and 40 new reload positions that will enhance the hub’s ability to handle the growing shipment volume expected to be seen in the United States and throughout the Americas. It also adds new storage and warehouse space for ramp equipment and shipping containers.DHL has invested more than $280 million in its Americas Hub at the CVG airport since 2009. Delta Expands Service to 13 Destinations
Feb. 1, 2017 — Delta Air Lines is expanding travel options for Cincinnati customers, with more seats, improved schedules and upgraded aircraft to the most popular destinations available this summer.Customers will experience enhanced service in 13 of the 35 destinations Delta offers in Cincinnati and a total seat growth of 6 percent in the city. Importantly, more than 75 percent of all flights will operate with aircraft providing a First Class cabin, the largest amount ever offered in Cincinnati.“These enhancements reflect the solid demand from both business and leisure travelers,” said Joe Esposito, Vice President – Network, Americas. “We are proud to serve our Cincinnati customers as the number one airline connecting Cincinnati to the world.”Upgrades will take place in nine major markets: Expanded service in five cities with additional daily flights: Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Orlando and Toronto Aircraft upgrades in two markets: Denver to mainline and all Minneapolis flights offering First Class Seasonal extensions in two markets: Fort Myers now operating daily throughout the summer and Seattle extending into the Fall and SpringAdditionally Delta is improving schedules in four markets including Charlotte, Hartford, Newark and Philadelphia. Schedules in these markets will be retimed to allow for convenient day trips for business and leisure travelers with morning departures and evening returns. Amazon to Create 2,000 Jobs at New CVG Hub
Jan. 31, 2017 — A new centralized air hub for Amazon at CVG will help the company meet demand from Amazon Prime members for fast, reliable delivery.Amazon has been an active member of the business community in Kentucky for nearly 20 years, employing more than 10,000 people in full-time jobs across 11 fulfillment center locations. Today, the company announced it is creating new jobs and investing even further in Kentucky with plans to build a centralized air hub to support its growing fleet of Prime Air cargo planes. At the site when it opens, the company expects to create more than 2,000 new jobs.“As we considered places for the long-term home for our air hub operations, Hebron quickly rose to the top of the list with a large, skilled workforce, centralized location with great connectivity to our nearby fulfillment locations, and an excellent quality of living for employees. Frontier Adds 3 New Destinations
Jan. 31, 2017 — Frontier Airlines is growing its CVG service by 20 percent through the addition of three nonstop destinations to begin this spring/summer, including New York – La Guardia, San Diego and Minneapolis/St. Paul.All three destinations will be served by A319 or A320 aircraft. Passengers flying to these destinations can find introductory fares\ valid today, 1/31 through Tuesday, 2/7, only at flyfrontier.com: New York – La Guardia (LGA): Introductory fare of $49. Service will operate daily starting on April 21, 2017 using 180-seat A320 aircraft. San Diego (SAN): Introductory fare of $79. Service will operate three times a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday starting on May 16, 2017 using 180-seat A320 aircraft. Minneapolis – St. Paul (MSP): Introductory fare of $29. Service will operate four times a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday starting on April 21, 2017 using 150-seat A319 aircraft.“Our average total fare for all of Frontier Airlines is $108, much less than what our competitors offer,” said Daniel Shurz, senior vice president – commercial, Frontier. “Customers wanting to travel in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky have told us they want more low-fare options, and with The WORKS and The PERKS, we offer the best value in U.S. air travel.”Frontier began service from CVG in May of 2013 with one daily flight to Denver. CVG Experienced Continued Growth In 2016
Jan. 23, 2017 — In 2016 CVG achieved its best ranking in the 21-year history of the U.S. Department of Transportation airfare report, experienced its best passenger traffic volume since 2005, and achieved a record year for cargo volume in the airport’s 70-year history.Airfares at CVG declined for the third consecutive year. In the latest DOT report for third quarter, 2016, CVG’s average fare declined 15 percent to $363 round-trip ranking CVG 44th among the top 100 U.S. domestic airports. Over the last two years, the average cost of travel to and from CVG has declined by $170 per passenger.CVG also experienced its largest passenger growth since 2005. Total passenger traffic through CVG increased 7.1 percent over 2015, while local passengers increased 12.7 percent. This represents more than 675,000 new local passengers year-over-year.December 2016 was the strongest month for cargo traffic in CVG’s history with 81,500 tons handled. For the first time in its history, CVG experienced annual cargo tonnage of 818,000 (1.6 billion pounds) and has now experienced double digit year-over-year growth in four of the last five years. Since 2011, cargo volume has increased more than 50 percent and CVG continues to be the fastest-growing cargo airport in North America. CVG is the eighth largest cargo airport in North America and 34th in the world.“The growth we’re experiencing demonstrates our successful efforts at diversifying our carrier base with a strong mix of traditional and low-cost carriers and growing cargo operations,” said Candace McGraw, chief executive officer, CVG. “We’re pleased to see customers in the Tri-State region continue to embrace the added air-serve options and lower airfares.”“We launched a new 5-year strategic plan in 2016, and I congratulate the entire CVG team on the tremendous success towards those important strategies,” said J. CVG Average Fares Continue to Drop
Jan. 20, 2017 — The U.S. Department of Transportation released its average airfare ranking report for third quarter 2016 compared to the same period of 2015. CVG has $4.4 Billion Annual Impact
22% Increase Since 2012Jan. 17, 2017 — CVG is a vital asset to the region’s economy with a $4.4 billion annual impact on local families, businesses and governments according to a report released from the economic centers at University of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky University. This represents a 22 percent increase compared to $3.6 billion impact from previous study in 2012.More than 6.8 million passengers fly through CVG each year, having a direct impact on the local economy. Highlights from the study include: CVG supports more than $4.4 billion in total annual output in the Cincinnati MSA CVG supports more than 13,500 direct jobs and more than 31,100 total jobs CVG supports more than $625 million in direct labor income and more than $1.3 billion in total labor income CVG supports more than $21 million in income tax revenues for Kentucky and more than $4 million for Ohio“We’re proud of what CVG means to our community. CVG Celebrates 70 Years of Flight
Jan. 10, 2017 — CVG celebrated its 70th “birthday” on Tuesday by surprising passengers with complimentary Gold Star coneys, gifts, and of course — birthday cake.Various other airport concessionaires offered discounts and specials in observance of the occasion.The first flight (via American Airlines) took place at CVG on January 10, 1947. Since then the airport has grown and evolved alongside the aviation industry. While much has changed, one thing remains the same—CVG has always been a place where important moments in people’s lives unfold.“2016 was a huge year for CVG,” said CEO Candace McGraw. “Entering our 70th year gives us a moment to look back and reflect on all that has been achieved and to look forward in anticipation of all of the great things that are ahead of us.
