Business Courier: Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport set to spend millions on security upgrade
Cincinnati Business Courier / Chris Wetterich / July 19, 2023Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport will spend $2.25 million to upgrade security in its terminal.Passengers will notice the change as they exit the concourse area into the terminal where the baggage and ticketing areas are located.Today, a security guard staffs the exit 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year. The guard prevents people from trying to enter the concourse area through the exit. New technology will eliminate the need for security, CVG CEO Candace McGraw said.“The price and the technology has become more cost-effective. There are more providers in the market,” McGraw said. For years, it has been cheaper to pay for security staff members, but the price for the technology needed to secure the area, a federal requirement, has improved. The “exit lane” technology will detect improper flow and security breaches by camera and other movement sensing technology.[FULL STORY HERE](https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2023/07/19/cvg-set-to-spend-millions-on-security-upgrade.html)Read more - Jul 19, 2023
Air Cargo News: Top 20 cargo airports: Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky the big winner
Air Cargo News / Damian Brett / July 19, 2023Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport reported the largest percentage increase in cargo volumes last year of the top 20 cargo airports, according to the latest statistics (see chart at end of article) from Airports Council International (ACI).ACI released its provisional figures for the top 10 airports back in April, showing that Hong Kong International remained the busiest cargo airport in the world last year despite a fall in demand related to Covid restrictions on airline crew and airport workers that hampered operations. The council has now released its final figures for 2022 and has also provided data for those airports placed 11-20.Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport – home to Amazon Air’s primary US hub and DHL Express’ hub for the Americas – witnessed the largest cargo volume growth (+16.8%) amongst the top 20 airports.[FULL STORY HERE](https://www.aircargonews.net/cargo-airport/top-20-cargo-airports-cincinnati-northern-kentucky-the-big-winner/)Read more - Jun 30, 2023
Business Courier: CVG clears runway for massive cargo campus
Cincinnati Business Courier / Chris Wetterich / June 30, 2023About a year ago, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport officials hailed the arrival of an obscure, international cargo carrier, Silk Way West Airlines. On the surface, it seemed like a rather minor player. Silk Way West would move cargo from CVG to Asia and Europe once or twice a week, depending on the season. Compare that with DHL Express and Amazon Air, both of which have their North American superhubs at CVG, and the dozens of flights they launch from the airport every day.But airport leadership believed it was the first victory in a much bigger strategy to double down on CVG’s strength as a leading international cargo airport and build a new business line.Over the past decade, CVG has diversified all aspects of its business, adding airlines and dramatically increasing cargo traffic, becoming the 14th-largest cargo airport in the world. Now, CEO Candace McGraw is seeking to do even more by adding to the types of goods leaving from CVG’s runways and making the airport a one-stop shop where cargo and passenger airlines can repair and enhance their aircraft.[FULL STORY HERE](https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2023/06/30/cvg-cargo-campus.html)Read more - Jun 27, 2023

Business Courier: CVG construction: Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport looks to overhaul front entrance, tunnel
Cincinnati Business Courier / Chris Wetterich / June 23, 2023Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport has hired a designer to overhaul the look of its front entrance, the tunnel between the terminal and gates and make it easier for passengers and guests to find their way around. The airport’s board has approved a $1 million contract with Cincinnati-based design firm Gresham Smith to lead the project. “The CVG entrance lacks a signature element that supports a sense of place that welcomes our customers and represents our brand,” according to an airport description of the project. “Identifying a sense of place will assist in the development of the sense of familiarity of our region we envision our passengers will experience when they visit our facilities.”[FULL STORY HERE](https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2023/06/23/cvg-looks-to-overhaul-front-entrance-tunnel.html)Read more - Jun 15, 2023
